2 suspects sought in Augusta’s first murder of the new year
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two suspects are wanted for murder after a man was fatally shot in the region’s first homicide of 2025.
The shooting happened near an Augusta elementary school on Tuesday, according to officials.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Damien Key, 19, and Trayvone David Cummings, 20, should be considered armed and dangerous.
Key is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs around 125 pounds. Cummings is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 125 pounds.
Both men are described as having black hair and brown eyes and are known to frequent the Harrisburg neighborhood near Walker Street.
The victim has been identified as Cattory McBride, 29, of Augusta, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
The sheriff’s office says around 1:27 p.m., deputies responded to the 1900 block of Walker Street in reference to the shooting.
Walker Street runs alongside Lamar-Milledge Elementary School.
On scene, officials say they found McBride who had been shot at least once.
McBride was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries according to officials.
19-year-old charged with robbing scooter rider in Vaucluse
A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a victim riding a scooter in the 200 block of Mansell Park in a newer subdivision.

The Richmond County School System said the incident happened off school grounds, and the school was immediately secured when s were notified.
By 3 p.m., the school had gotten the all-clear and students were dismissed.
