AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Here’s what we know about Augusta’s second homicide of 2025 – just a day after the new year.

Officials say Victor Prince, 62, of Augusta, has been arrested in connection to the homicide that took place in downtown Augusta on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Quincy Clay Fields, 41, of the 700 Block of Broad Street.

On Wednesday at 3:23 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 700 block of Broad Street to investigate a report of gunshots.

19-year-old charged with robbing scooter rider in Vaucluse

A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a victim riding a scooter in the 200 block of Mansell Park in a newer subdivision.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man who had been shot at least one time in the chest.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m., according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

At the scene around 4:30 p.m., deputies were loading a bicycle into a crime scene vehicle, possibly as evidence.

Prince will be committed to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center for murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to jail records.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.

Body found in burning trailer in Wilkes County

Wilkes County Emergency Services and deputies responded to the fire in a tractor-trailer box that had been converted into a living space.

Meanwhile, two suspects are wanted for murder after a man was fatally shot Tuesday in the region’s first homicide of 2025.

The shooting happened on Walker Street near Lamar-Milledge Elementary School on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Cattory McBride, 29, of Augusta, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Damien Key, 19, and Trayvone David Cummings, 20, are the suspects.

The latest shootings come amid a more than two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed nearly 200 lives across the CSRA.

Communities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River, but as the largest city in the region, Augusta has been hit hard.
