Suspects arrested 3 days after Augusta’s first murder of the year
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two people are in custody after a deadly shooting in Augusta on Tuesday — the first murder of 2025 in Augusta.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Trayvone David Cummings, 20, and Damien Key, 19, turned themselves in at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Friday.
The victim was identified as Cattory McBride, 29, of Augusta, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
The sheriff’s office says around 1:27 p.m., deputies responded to the 1900 block of Walker Street in reference to the shooting.
Walker Street runs alongside Lamar-Milledge Elementary School.
On scene, officials say they found McBride who had been shot at least once.
McBride was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries according to officials.
19-year-old charged with robbing scooter rider in Vaucluse
A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a victim riding a scooter in the 200 block of Mansell Park in a newer subdivision.

The Richmond County School System said the incident happened off school grounds, and the school was immediately secured when s were notified.
By 3 p.m., the school had gotten the all-clear and students were dismissed.
