GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is warning residents about a text scam that is spreading.

Officials said a text is going around informing residents that they have overdue toll charges.

South Carolina education officials are working to understand how much of its educator and student has been impacted by a cyberattack.

The impact of fraud, identity theft and consumer scams can last for months or even years.

The Southern Connector Toll Road posted a statement on their website that states they will never s via SMS/text messaging.

You’d get a letter in the mail instead, or you could call their office to double-check.
