This latest shooting happened around 4:40 a.m. at the American Hearth Inn in the 3900 block of Richland Avenue West, according to authorities.
When deputies arrived, they found a woman dead in a room with at least one gunshot wound. Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said his staff confirmed she was dead on the scene at 5:15 a.m.
We talked to a witness who works next to the motel, who told us a woman was shot several times and a child was present.
The victim’s name will be released after positive identification and notification of next-of-kin, Ables says.
An autopsy will be conducted in Newberry.
