CSRA homestead exemption public meetings begin this week

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The first two of many public hearings on the new statewide homestead exemption law would put a cap on how  much property taxes could rise each year to prevent tax spikes will be held on Tuesday.

This is your chance to make your voice heard before local governments or school boards make a decision.

The Richmond County Board of Education will host their first meeting Tuesday at the education building starting at 3:30 p.m.

Ga. crews prepare more than 6,000 miles of road ahead of winter weather

Winter weather could be heading towards the CSRA again, and the Georgia Department of Transportation says they are preparing for it.

The second will be on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.

Augusta’s city says we should know the dates for the commission meetings soon.

Columbia County Board of Commissioners will have theirs at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Columbia County Board of Commissioners plans to opt out as well.

The last two will be on Jan. 28 at 10 a.m., and Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.

Augusta mayor set to deliver 2025 State of the City address

On Tuesday, Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson will deliver the 2025 State of the City address. It will be held at the Lee N. Beard Commission Chamber, located at 535 Telfair Street, at 12 p.m.

All of them will be inside the Evans Government Center Auditorium.

And their county’s board of education scheduled their hearings this week.

The first is on Jan. 27 at 8 a.m. The second is the day after at 6 p.m.

And the last one will be on Feb. 4 at that same time.

All of those will be in the Board of Education building.

Both counties plan to opt out of the tax.

Construction work causes traffic delays across CSRA

Across the CSRA, construction crews will be working on several projects that will cause delays and closures.

The Glascock County Board of Education is holding the first public hearings today to opt out of the homestead exemption.

The meeting will start at 10 a.m. at the Glascock County Board of Education board room.

The next two meetings are scheduled for Jan. 23 and 30, both at 6 p.m.
