COLUMBIA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A new bill proposed in the South Carolina statehouse could require boats of a certain size to have liability insurance.

The legislation would require owners of boats or other watercraft of at least 16 feet in length to carry liability insurance of at least $50,000 of coverage.

The South Carolina Senate will consider a law intended to “overhaul” what actions are taken when a person is convicted of driving under the influence, or impaired driving.

Senate Bill 52 would implement measures to modify how impaired driving cases are investigated...

Boat owners would also have to certify that their watercraft is covered by an insurance policy.
