Winter weather brings delayed start, school closures in CSRA

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - School districts across the CSRA have announced plans for school due to winter weather.

Here’s what we know:

Richmond County

The Richmond County School System will continue to operate on an e-learning schedule on Friday.

Students should complete assignments from home using Canvas or SeeSaw, and teachers will communicate via Remind or Class Dojo.

After-school activities and athletic events will resume as weather conditions are projected to improve later in the day.

Several schools are also experiencing heating issues that require further evaluation, and Emergency Management Officials have identified potentially hazardous road conditions that may impact bus routes during early morning pick-up times.

Schools and offices will resume a normal schedule on Monday, Jan. 27.

FEMA centers in Georgia closing for 2 days because of weather

All of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Georgia disaster recovery centers will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday in anticipation of possible snow and ice.

LIST: CSRA warming shelters to escape the winter weather

With the cold rolling in, Augusta is offering day and overnight warming shelters ready to keep you safe and warm.

Columbia County

All Columbia County School District operations will resume on Friday.

Aiken County

Aiken County Public Schools will return to in-person learning on Friday on a two-hour delayed start.

Only lunch will be served.

After-school activities & QuestZone will be held.

Elsewhere

  • Aiken Technical College: The college will operate on a normal schedule on Friday.
  • Allendale County: Schools will remain closed on Friday. This includes all athletic events and after-school programs.
  • Augusta University: Campuses will return to normal operations on Friday.
  • Augusta Technical College: All locations will reopen with normal business hours on Friday.
  • Bamberg County: Schools will be closed on Friday and will resume normal operations on Monday.
  • Barnwell County: The school district will return to normal operations on Friday.
  • Burke County: All schools will remain closed until Monday.
  • Edgefield County: The school district will return to normal operations and a normal instructional day schedule on Friday.
  • Edmund Burke Academy: Regular school and afterschool activities will continue on Friday. Varsity basketball games have been canceled.
  • Emanuel County: All schools will open with a normal schedule on Friday.
  • Fox Creek High School: School will operate on a late arrival schedule for Friday. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. for students who are dropped off early. The first class of the day will be 3rd Period and it will begin at 10:10 a.m.
  • Glascock County: Glascock County schools will continue to be learn-from-home through Friday. All athletic events are canceled. Students will return to school on Monday.
  • Hancock County: Schools will continue asynchronous learning on Friday. Normal operations will resume on Monday, Jan. 27.
  • Helms College: The college will reopen on Friday with classes starting at a delayed time of 10 a.m.
  • Jefferson County: Schools will be closed on Friday.
  • Jenkins County: The school system will remain closed on Friday. School will resume on Monday.
  • Lincoln County: All classes will resume on Friday.
  • McCormick County: The school district will resume its normal school schedule on Friday.
  • McDuffie County: Schools will return to a regular schedule on Friday. The Transportation Department will any parents who may need to meet buses at the end of roads still impacted by the weather.
  • Orangeburg County: Schools and District offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday. All morning bus pick-up times, school start times, and staff reporting times will be adjusted accordingly by two hours. Dismissal will remain at the regularly scheduled times.
  • Screven County: There will be no school for students on Friday. All Staff should report at 9:00 a.m. on Friday for a staff workday. School for students and staff will resume on Monday.
  • Taliaferro County: The school district will continue normal operations on Friday with a one-hour delay. School will begin at 9:00 a.m. and dismiss at the regular time.
  • Tall Pines STEM Academy: School will run on a two-hour delay on Friday. Drop-off will start at 9:30 a.m and classes will start at 10 a.m.
  • University of South Carolina Aiken: The university will resume normal in-person operations and classes on Friday. Situation-specific questions should be directed to your professor or immediate supervisor.
  • Warren County: Schools will remain closed on Friday. Students will return on Monday, Jan. 27.
  • Washington County: The school system will continue an at-home learning model for Friday. Schools will return to normal operations on Monday, Jan 27.
  • Wilkes County: Classes will resume on Friday.
