Morning drivers find dangerously icy conditions across CSRA
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Deputies responded to numerous wrecks Wednesday morning throughout the CSRA after a winter storm dumped snow across roads in the region.
Aiken County officials said to avoid Richland Avenue and Gregg Highway because they have lots of hills and had several calls about accidents, they told us at 11 a.m.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said no major roadways were closed as of 11 a.m., but there was a lot of black ice on shady roadways.
Crews warn of ‘treacherous areas’ as they clear CSRA snow-slick roads
Georgia Department of Transportation plow teams have noticed some treacherous areas while they worked through the night to clear snow from routes in east-central Georgia, and will continue on Wednesday.

Augusta officials said there were several problems on Deans Bridge Road, Walton Way, Morgan Road and Barton Chapel around 8:25 a.m.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said multiple roads were iced over and not able. Several accidents had already occurred just before 8 a.m.
One of the accidents, deputies responded to a three-vehicle accident in front of Steed’s Dairy on Wrightsboro Road. No one was injured, dispatchers said. On the opposite side of the road, deputies were clearing a disabled vehicle at 7:09 a.m.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple wrecks throughout the county. Deputies advised people to stay off the roads until it is safe.

Around midnight, the Taliaferro County deputies blocked off I-20 West at the 146.5-mile marker due to an accident involving a semi-truck and a van. The roadway was cleared at 1:50 a.m.
In Washington County, deputies and Sandersville police responded to a rollover single-car accident on MLK Avenue Extension and Kaolin Road around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Also in Washington County, deputies, fire and EMS crews responded to an overturned vehicle crash on Linton Road at the bridge near Webster Road around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
“I’m urging everyone to stay off the roadways unless it is an absolute emergency. Travel is extremely dangerous, and we’ve already seen vehicles stuck, stranded, and wrecked. There is no reason to be out unless it’s critical. Please take this seriously - for your safety and the safety of first responders,” Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran said.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office had the same advice.
“Due to current conditions, we urge everyone to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary. If you must drive, please exercise extreme caution, reduce your speed, and remain alert at all times,” the agency said.
