YEMASEE, Sc. (WTOC) -The Yemassee Police Department says all 43 monkeys have been recaptured after escaping a research facility in November.

Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard told Yemassee Police that as of Friday, January 24th, the monkeys have been safely recaptured and all are in good health.

Day one of the St. Croix Bassmaster Open at Clarks Hill Reservoir has been postponed due to icy conditions, according to the organization.

Westergaard also said, “it was a real team and community effort.”

A week ago, only three of the monkeys remained outside of the facility, but Westergaard maintained throughout the ordeal that the monkeys stayed nearby and consistently took food as it was given to them.

The future of the monkeys now that they have returned home remains unclear, as the Alpha Genesis Research Center is still under investigation regarding allegations of animal mistreatment.
