Richmond County Sheriff’s Office expands K-9 program
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced the expansion of its K-9 program on Friday.
The sheriff’s office says the expansion aims to provide 24/7 coverage with K-9 units on shift.
“These highly trained canines play a vital role in our community by assisting in the search for missing persons, including children and elderly individuals who have wandered off, where time is of the essence,” said Lewis Blanchard, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office chief of staff.
The K-9 units are also certified in drug detection, helping law enforcement locate and remove dangerous drugs from the streets of Augusta, according to officials.
Ga. storm survivors have 2 weeks to apply for FEMA assistance
Georgia survivors of Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene in the counties designated for individual assistance have just two weeks left to apply for FEMA assistance.

To this initiative, David Alalof, Shield Club of Augusta president, will present a $22,000 check to Sheriff Eugene Brantley, according to officials.
The sheriff’s office says this donation will contribute to the purchase of two certified canines, significantly enhancing the services the sheriff’s office provides to citizens and visitors.
“We are grateful for the of The Shield Club of Augusta, whose commitment to public safety is helping us better serve the community,” said Blanchard.
