Immigration agents conducting ‘targeted operations’ in Georgia
ATLANTA, Ga. - ICE agents made arrests in the Atlanta area, according to the agency on Sunday.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson said the arrests were made as part of “enhanced targeted operations.”
The new istration also started ramped-up immigration enforcement in Chicago and elsewhere across the country.
Undocumented families in Ga. worry amid immigration raids
As federal immigration raids begin around the country, including in Georgia, some undocumented families are worried about their future.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it made 956 arrests nationwide on Sunday and 286 on Saturday. While some of the operations may not have been unusual, ICE averaged 311 daily arrests in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.
Since Trump took office, similar immigration enforcement operations have been publicized around the country, which U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says are ongoing. Social media posts from other DEA and Homeland Security offices noted additional weekend operations in at least Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska and Texas.
In metro Atlanta, arrests took place near Buford Highway, in Chamblee and in Brookhaven.
2 active-duty units from Georgia head to southern border
Two active-duty units from Georgia’s Fort Stewart will head to the southern border as part of the federal government’s attempt to bolster security.

Mutual aid groups in metro Atlanta also reported seeing ICE in Doraville, Smyrna and Cobb County.
ICE said agents are working in conjunction with the FBI, Drug Enforcement Agency and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Forearms and Explosives.

The arrests are part of an offensive launched by President Donald Trump’s istration to detain and deport undocumented immigrants; similar operations have taken shape across the country, including in Denver, Los Angeles and Chicago.
On Monday, ICE reported that it had made 956 arrests and lodged 554 people in detainment the day before.
Georgia NAA President Gerald Griggs said the Trump istration’s priorities should be elsewhere.

President Donald Trump is poised to sign the first bill of his new istration, and it is named after a slain Augusta University nursing student.

“The last time I checked, people were concerned about the economy, concerned about the price of gas, the price of eggs,” said Griggs.
Some local police departments, including Clayton County police and Forest Park police, have stated they are not currently working with ICE.
