LOUISVILLE, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Tuesday, the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) confirmed that they were officially involved in the case of a child death earlier this month.

“The Georgia Department of Human Services’ Division of Family & Children Services is aware of the recent, tragic death of eight-month-old Caleb Taylor. The Division has history with Caleb’s family, and we are working alongside law enforcement to assist them in their investigation. Our condolences go out to all who loved Caleb as they grieve this devastating loss.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is also assisting the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office with he case.

The child has been identified as 8-month-old Caleb Taylor, who died Jan. 8.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is active and ongoing.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says the autopsy results and reports won’t be available for some time.

This apparently isn’t the first time Caleb’s mom has lost a child.

The GBI says it’s aware of another child’s death in 2021, but the agency isn’t investigating at this time.

The Dekalb County medical examiner has identified the child as 7-month-old Micah Taylor, who died on Sept. 13, 2021.

We’ve reached out to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for more information on the death, but were referred to the GBI.
