Finding Solutions: Church offers resource center to community
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Smiles, laughter and a good time is what you would have found at Beulah Grove Community Resource Center’s senior day.
Every week those 60 and up get together to eat, worship and play games.
This is just one of many resources Beulah Grove offers.
They’re finding solutions in how they can assist with both mental and physical needs.
It’s a place that’s been around since the 90s, serving anyone in need.
Second Act Thrift Store sees ‘abnormal days’ after opening
We told you back in September about the Second Act Thrift Store located downtown on 8th Street. Since opening on Sept. 20, the Second Act Thrift Store has experienced a lot.

Beulah Grove Baptist Church purchased a nightclub and transformed it into a community resource center.
Alice McKie has been a member of the church for 24 years and volunteers her time with the seniors.
“I’ve been so blessed in my life because I met some interesting people, so I felt that this would be good to volunteer at the church and be a part of my giving back because people have always been good to me,” said McKie.
Pastor Xavier Creekmur says they’re grateful to provide a safe place for seniors to come each week.
“Oftentimes what we find is that many of our seniors live in isolation. They don’t have relationships, their families live far away, or those that they know in the community have either moved or ed away, or health conditions make it to where they can’t do too much,” said Creekmur.
Shelters aim to keep people out of cold
Overnight shelters work hard 365 days a year, and the winter weather certainly elevated that. They’re finding solutions in how they can help keep people off the streets.

Beulah Grove doesn’t just provide for seniors, they help everyone.
They have a food pantry, clothing closet and provide medical services.
The Lamar Medical Center is located right down the hall from the community center.
“Wrap-around services are a need and we want to make sure we can people not only to make sure they can have the right prescriptions prescribed and awareness of where their health can take them, but also where they have need of food or clothing or have other resource they’re in need of,” said Creekmur.
They say they’re really a one-stop shop here to meet your needs.
Nonprofit finds jobs for those affected by criminal system
A nonprofit organization in Augusta is centered around providing to people who have been affected by the criminal justice system.

“As I tell people we are a church that’s a Walmart. If you need daycare we are here. If you need money or a car loan, or a personal loan, we have a credit union. Again, we are a church without walls, all your needs are met here, and we turn no one away,” said Pat Duncan, executive director of Lamar Medical Center.
They say there is an increase in the need for their medical services.
They serve about 300 individuals monthly.
As for senior day, it’s completely free.
It’s on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. at their resource center located near the medical district.
