AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A murder suspect has been booked and charged after a pursuit with deputies that ended in a crash Wednesday at Washington Road and Bobby Jones Expressway, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Tracy Martin, 18, of the 3500 block of Tullocks Hill Drive, was arrested on Wednesday, according to officials.

Officials say Martin was arrested in connection with the murder of Argie Jones, a 54-year-old homeless woman who died after being shot during an incident on Ellis Street back in July 2024.

Officers say around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, they, along with the Southeastern US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, attempted to serve search warrants on the 300 block of Sumac Trail in Martinez to locate and arrest Martin.As deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the location, they say Martin jumped into a white, Mitsubishi Mirage with another male driving.

A 17-year-old has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his mother with an 8-inch knife multiple times, according to deputies.

Officials say the Columbia County deputies attempted to stop the Mitsubishi which led to a pursuit throughout Columbia County.

The pursuit ended at Washington Road and Bobby Jones Expressway when the Mitsubishi struck a vehicle head-on, according to officials.

Martin was taken into custody and is being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center for the murder charges.

According to officials, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver and will be obtaining their own charges for him.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
