Columbia County developers hope to build cottages in Evans
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Georgia developer is looking to bring what they call “courtyard cottage living” to Columbia County.
Tiny cottages – more than a hundred of them could be developed right across from Mullins Colony in Evans.
Even without development, Mullins Crossing is a busy area and it may be getting busier.
The Columbia County Planning Commission hasn’t even weighed in on the new development yet, but here is what they are looking at later this month.
Former Ga. college basketball coach shot dead in Atlanta
Atlanta police are treating the death of a former head basketball coach at two Georgia universities as a homicide after his body was found.

The plan calls for more than 123 tiny cottages and they’re coming with some concerns.
“Anytime you add housing like this it affects property values all around it and the county so I’m curious what it would look like down the road,” said Hailey Etzel, a Columbia County resident.
Traffic and growth are already concerns near Mullins Crossing.
“I have a lot of questions about the long term. What would that look like if we bring that many people into that small of a space?” said Etzel.
Brightside Homes is asking the county to grant a rezoning of 15 acres.
Each acre will have nearly eight cottages ranging in all sizes from one bed and one bath to three beds and 2 1/2 baths.
2 Ga. air crash victims ed as ‘committed,’ ‘genuine’
The Potomac air crash has left many reeling in Richmond Hill, hometown of an airline pilot who died, and in Lilburn, hometown of a soldier who also died.

All of this comes with a pool, clubhouse, dog park, nature trails, gym and more.
Developers say this plan addresses the housing shortage while enhancing the quality of life.
But those like Etzel say they still need more information.
“I just think people want answers before they jump into anything,” said Etzel.
The proposal goes before the planning and zoning commission on Feb. 20.
Columbia County leaders say they too are waiting to hear more from developers before they chime in for a comment.
