S.C. attorney general urges sheriffs to partner with ICE
COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson sent a letter Tuesday to the state’s 46 sheriffs encouraging them to work with federal agents performing immigration enforcement actions.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been conducting raids across the country – including in South Carolina – direction of recently inaugurated President Donald Trump.
“Over the last few years, the United States has witnessed an unprecedented and disastrous influx of illegal immigration. This has led to a serious strain on federal and state resources, while also permitting the permeation of crime throughout our communities,” Wilson wrote in his letter.

Iraq War veteran and former congressman from Georgia will be at the helm of a department that provides crucial care to America’s veterans.

Wilson encourages the sheriffs to apply for ICE’s Section 287(g) program, a voluntary partnership between ICE and state and local officials that authorizes designated officers to perform limited immigration enforcement functions within their own jurisdictions.
The program allows sheriff’s departments to tailor their participation to one of three levels based on their department’s capabilities and resources.
Sen. Scott, Gov. McMaster will lead Graham’s reelection bid
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of President Donald Trump’s closest congressional allies, is kicking off his pursuit of a fifth term.

“As the chief prosecutor of South Carolina, I share the same sentiment as you about keeping our citizens and communities safe,” Wilson wrote. “This is an utmost priority, and we are called to faithfully uphold the laws and Constitutions of this State and the United States.
The letter comes after at least one South Carolina law enforcement agency learned of a raid only after the fact.
Goose Creek Police Chief LJ Roscoe said agents went to the 100 block of Brick Greens Road before 8 a.m. Friday to serve warrants.
4 arrested during anti-deportation rally in Georgia
Four people were arrested during an anti-deportation rally held near Plaza Fiesta in Chamblee, according to police.

“It was reported to me, after the fact, that ICE was at the location serving a warrant. The Goose Creek Police Department was not given information in advance that ICE was going to be at the address, however we were notified once they needed help,” Roscoe said. “They resolved the issue prior to our arrival, so no one from Goose Creek Police Department was involved or on scene.”

Roscoe also claims ICE failed to notify the department that it would be in the jurisdiction of the Goose Creek Police Department to carry out warrants.
A representative of ICE “did try to tell me that they notified us in advance, however after looking into it, I found that they in fact never called Goose Creek Police Department,” according to Roscoe.
