Deputy busts smuggling by drone at Washington State Prison
DAVISBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two suspects were charged after a deputy spotted and followed a drone to their illegal contraband operation outside of Washington State Prison, we learned on Tuesday.
A deputy on patrol around Washington State Prison said they heard and saw a drone flying over the prison on Friday.
The deputy says they then investigated the possible origin of the drone, which was flying back west.
While on West Brown Drive, the deputy said they ed a suspicious vehicle on the side of the roadway with its light on.
Following a preliminary investigation, the following individuals were arrested:
Travis Simmons, 24, and Traquarious Hester, 29, both from Macon, were arrested, according to authorities.
Both are charged with two counts of the following:
- Use of unmanned aircraft to accomplish violations
- Possession of drug-related objects
- Items prohibited for possession by inmates (tobacco)
- Items prohibited for possession by inmates
- Possession of promethazine hydrochloride
- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
