Aiken County mom charged in baby’s drug death
GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A woman has been charged after allegedly consuming drugs causing the death of her baby in Graniteville, according to authorities.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office says they responded to Aiken Regional Medical Center for the death of a 39-week intrauterine fetal demise on Nov. 4, 2024.
Physicians pronounced the child deceased at 11 a.m., Coroner Darryl Ables said.
The child, identified as Kyrie Venable was autopsied in Newberry and the final manner of death has been determined homicide due to exposure to methamphetamine, according to Ables.
According to the arrest warrant, Laquanda Lee, 27, of Graniteville, unlawfully caused the death of a child under the age of 11-years-old.
New details emerge in Jackson man’s child sex charges
Police released details about the crimes a Jackson man has been charged with after being accused of criminal sexual conduct with several minors and providing them with drugs.

Authorities said Lee committed child abuse or neglect by consuming methamphetamine while knowingly in her third trimester of pregnancy.
The arrest warrant states that Lee allegedly demonstrated an extreme indifference to human life during the incident in October of 2024.
According to police, deputies initially responded about a fetal demise call from the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Lee was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder/homicide by child abuse, according to jail records.
The Coroner’s Office, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are continuing with the investigation.
