AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Piedmont Augusta is now offering women’s heart screenings.

Leaders of the program say this helps promote awareness for heart disease in women that often can go unnoticed compared to men’s.

Heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year and is the leading cause of death for women in Georgia.

Dental College of Georgia offers a day of free care for kids

Augusta University’s Dental College of Georgia hosted its annual Give Kids a Smile Day. It was in honor of Children’s Dental Health Month.

Give Kids a Smile Day offers free dental care for underserved kids in the community.

“We’re just trying to identify risk factors early so that people can be treated early in a stage of prevention before an event occurs,” said Victoria Burt, nurse practitioner.

The clinic will be held at the Piedmont Heart at Summerville on Wrightsboro Road in Augusta.

In addition to the screening program, it also includes a network.

That includes creating good nutrition habits for women, engaging in reducing stress and staying physically active.
