How halt of federal EV charger program will affect Georgia
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Trump istration is halting efforts to build electric vehicle chargers.
The president’s order will suspend a $5 billion program to build chargers on highways nationwide put in place by the Biden istration.
The cut would affect the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, also known as NEVI.
EV advocates in Georgia are weighing in on the issue.

Multiple Democratic attorneys general are suing President Donald Trump to stop Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from accessing Americans' sensitive personal data.
“It’s still up in the air as to what will happen because some of the funding was put through congress,” said Don Francis, president of E Club of the South.
Francis says Georgia is in phase two of its NEVI funding.
Francis says the potential changes will mainly affect drivers who travel long distances or across state lines.
“The other things that NEVI funding was doing was adding in additional charges at some of these already existing locations. Georgia’s not going to be impacted as much as maybe some of the other states who are late to the party.”

Francis says Telsa, Rivian and Georgia Power all have self-funded chargers across the state, giving drivers a robust of options.

The Georgia Department of Education oversees NEVI funding and projects.
The agency declined to comment on the potential funding cut.
