AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person has died after a shooting on 15th street in Augusta on Sunday, according to authorities.

The victim was identified as Jermaine Habersham, 37, of Augusta, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a call at 3:59 p.m. on Sunday about a shooting in the 1500 block of 15th Street.

Officials say early details show that one man was showing a handgun to another man when the handgun was accidentally fired and struck the victim in the chest.

The suspect drove the victim to the Wellstar/MCG hospital, where he later died.

Habersham was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., and an autopsy has been scheduled, according to Bowen.
