Aiken man charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Ray Kersey was arrested on Monday, according to jail bookings.

According to the incident report, on Feb. 28, 2023, deputies were ed by the Aiken County Public School District in reference to a victim possibly being sexually assaulted by Kersey.

Law enforcement officials say they have responded to a North Augusta home after reports of a suspicious device.

Information was discovered by the school district staff via a school internet monitoring system that led to the call, according to the incident report.

Deputies say they responded to the victim’s home who told officials she and Kersey had sexual relations the day before.

Aiken police investigate shooting of boy in Crosland Park

According to arrest warrants, Kersey’s charges are stated to have occurred between Jan. 1, 2023 and Feb. 26, 2023.

Kersey is charged with two counts of sex/criminal sexual conduct with a minor, 3rd degree, and two counts of sex/criminal sexual conduct with a minor, or attempt, according to jail bookings.
