Federal lawsuit moves forward against Burke County sheriff

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - There are some new developments regarding sexual harassment allegations against Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams.

One of his former employees filed a federal lawsuit after an Equal Employment Opportunity complaint was dismissed. Although the complaint was dismissed, the dismissal letter states that the decision doesn’t mean the allegations are untrue and don’t have merit.

2 Aiken men plead guilty to swindling elderly woman

Two Aiken men have pleaded guilty after a federal grand jury in Columbia returned a three-count indictment, accusing them of bank fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud last year.

The 33-page lawsuit filed late last year by former Burke County Sheriff’s Office employee Brenda Johnson holds serious allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation against Williams.

Filed on Feb. 3, there was a waiver of the service of summons signed on Jan. 27, which means the fees were waived for U.S. marshals to serve Williams with the lawsuit. The sheriff has 60 days from Jan. 16 to file and serve an answer.
