COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Department of Revenue said any employees who haven’t received their W-2s should take action now.

Employers usually mail W-2s before Jan. 31. The agency recommends people not file their taxes before they receive that document.

For those who haven’t received theirs, SCDOR said the first steps that you can take involve ing your employer, ensuring the W-2 has been mailed, and ask when it was sent and to what address.

If the form was delivered to the wrong address, SCDOR said you should provide a current address and ask them to send a replacement.

If your W-2 isn’t delivered by the end of February, SCDOR suggests ing the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Agents will then request your W-2 from your employer and provide information on how to file after not receiving the document.

Those who don’t receive a W-2 before the April 15 filing deadline will have to file without it by calculating wages and using the federal 4852 and SC4852 tax documents, SCDOR said.

If the W-2 arrives after you’ve filed and the information differs from what you estimated, you will be required to file an amended return.
