4 suspects arrested in Monetta murder of 21-year-old

MONETTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Four men have been arrested in connection to a shooting that left 21-year-old Remedee Jennings-Leaphart dead.

On Friday, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Latrez Nicholson, 20-year-old Zayvion Abner, 19-year-old Demarion Morris and 23-year-old Wondrecus Brunson were arrested in the case.

The sheriff’s office says all four suspects were charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The sheriff’s office says additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

“Investigators and the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office worked tirelessly on this case,” said Sheriff Marty Sawyer. “Their hard work has led to the arrest of four suspects.”

The mugshots for Morris and Brunson are not available at this time.

The shooting happened on Jan. 23 at 6:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Pine Circle in Monetta.

Bond has been denied to one of the suspects in the murder and armed robbery of an employee at an Augusta smoke shop in January.

Jennings-Leaphart was initially driven by an unknown person to his mother’s residence in Batesburg-Leesville, and his family then drove him to a medical clinic in Batesburg-Leesville, where Lexington County EMS was called to transport him to Lexington Medical Center.

On Thursday at 9:08 p.m., the coroner’s office was called to the Lexington Medical Center to investigate the shooting death of Jennings-Leaphart.

Jennings-Leaphart was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at 8:35 p.m. from a gunshot wound to the body, according to authorities.

The slayings are among the latest in a more than two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed about 200 lives across the CSRA.

Communities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River.
