After a short struggle, the victim told deputies the man shot him and his female companion before fleeing, taking the female and her friend with him.
Investigators say they then made with Frankin Richardson, 44, who they saw walking down the side of the road and learned that he had been at the crime scene and decided to walk away before the shooting started.
The female shooting victim, Shania Brianne Hope Vanassche, 27, of Canada, was the female companion and conspirator in the attempted robbery, according to officials.

The shooter, Jeffery Scott Gillmour, 48, also of Canada, was the accomplice of Vanassche and her male friend, Samuel L. Dillard III, 37, of Aiken along with Richardson.
The four had all planned and participated in the conspiracy to rob the homeowner, according to a press release
Vanassche appeared to have been shot by Gillmour accidentally during the struggle with the homeowner, according to a press release.
3 arrests made after bomb, drugs found in Aiken home
Three people have been arrested after stolen guns and an explosive device were found in an Aiken home on Tuesday.

Gillmour, Dillard and Vanassche were all arrested in Aiken County and are charged with attempted murder, burglary, attempted armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit murder, according to officials.
The press release states Gillmour was also charged with the use of a firearm during a violent crime, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Richardson was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.
“We have learned that Gillmour and Vanassche were currently out on bond from Aiken County on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine at the time of this incident. They have been denied bond on these charges, and I would anticipate their bond in Aiken County will be revoked,” said Sheriff Jody Rowland in a press release.
Officials say they also learned Vanassche has entered the country illegally from Canada and ICE has put a “HOLD” on her. Rowland said he would be glad to honor the hold for ICE.”
