Suspect in fatal S.C. Walmart shooting charged with murder, bond denied
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A 19-year-old accused of shooting and killing a man in a South Carolina Walmart will remain behind bars after being denied bond Sunday morning.

The suspect, Chanceler Lowery, had his case turned over to general sessions with his next appearance scheduled for April 14.
Lowery is accused of shooting 24-year-old Jaquante Montgomery in a Sumter Walmart off Broad Street Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
Montgomery was pronounced dead at Prisma Health after being shot multiple times, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.

Four men have been arrested in connection to a shooting that left 21-year-old Remedee Jennings-Leaphart dead.

Police believe the two had issues with each other and got into a fight before the shooting.
Police posted a photo of a person who they believe was involved in the shooting and offered an up to $5,000 reward for information leading to the man’s arrest. According to police, the photos they released were of Lowery.
Initially, the call came in as an active shooter threat, police said.

Since mid-April, there’s been a wave of homicides and other sweeping the CSRA. Although as the largest city, Augusta has been hit especially hard, the crime wave is affecting places large and small.

Video from the scene shows that the Walmart appeared to have been evacuated. Police said as of Friday at around 4 p.m., the Walmart was closed.
A nearby Lowe’s stated the store was on lockdown during the incident, but the lockdown has since been lifted.
Authorities confirmed that the shooting remains under investigation.
