What’s the status of orange cones, traffic on Furys Ferry Road?
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Drivers have been dealing with construction on Furys Ferry Road since 2021.
The last time we checked in with the engineering department, they told us to expect the project to be finished in 2026.
But they did say the project is 75% to 80% complete.
Construction projects like these effects a lot of people and not just the ones who live in Columbia County.
Prisila Reilly drives Furys Ferry Road every day.
Army Corps of Engineers awaits funding for Helene debris removal
While cleanup and pick-up have been underway across most of the CSRA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is still waiting on funding for debris removal around their sites at Clarks Hill Lake.

“Oh, I feel like I live in L.A. My friends who live in the West Coast, we talk about traffic and I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, an hour commute’s normal to me,’” said Reilly.
Timing is everything for her family.
“I have to be very intentional on my timeline when it comes to leaving in the morning to get her to school and then turn around and actually cross back over to get downtown or especially the afternoons,” she said.
Columbia County Engineering Services Director Kyle Titus says with a project of this size, there’s a lot more happening than what you see from the driver’s seat.
REAL ID deadline approaches: What Ga., S.C. should know
In just a few months, Georgians and South Carolinians will need a REAL ID to board commercial flights and enter secure federal buildings.

“To date, the utility relocations have been the bulk of the work and that’s substantially completed. They’re doing a lot of base installation, so putting down rock, putting down the first course of asphalt, storm drainage, and they’re switching lanes. So that’s where we are now,” said Titus.
Some sections are farther along than others.
“The big lift in the immediate is going to be switching lanes at Southern Pines Drive. There’s a big culvert right there at Reed Creek. So, they’re scheduling and planning that now we will likely have to shut down Southern Pines Drive for a weekend,” said Titus.
But with 75% of the project complete, Titus says the end is in sight.
Leaders aim to make Georgia a key player in electric vehicles
Georgia wants to be the leader when it comes to domestic electric vehicles and the battery supply chain.

“It’s going to flow really well when it’s done, and it has been inconvenient for most of the travelers along that corridor, but it’s going to really cut loose when it’s done,” said Titus.
It’s all about perspective for those like Reilly, who see this every day.
“It’s a short-term inconvenience, right, for a long-term goal to grow the right way,” said Reilly.
Right now, workers are finishing up the bulk of Furys Ferry Road.
Next up is the roundabout at Hardy McManus Road.
If you want to know why this four-year project is turning into five, rainy days like Wednesday is your answer.
