New told deputies that after she wouldn’t let Wilson go through her phone he choked her. Wilson then attempted to destroy New’s phone after they fought over a gun.

New says Wilson came at her again and that is when she shot him.

New is currently in custody.

Wilson was transported to Doctors Hospital of Augusta to be treated.

The incident comes amid an outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed about 200 lives in nearly three years across the CSRA.

As the largest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.
