AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a 32-year-old.

Coroner Mark Bowen said Alvin Rivers, of Thomson, was shot at least one time in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station at 2061 Gordon Highway.

Officials say the shooting happened at 1:57 a.m. on Tuesday.

Rivers was transported to Wellstar MCG hospital after the shooting, according to the coroner’s office.

Bowen said Rivers was pronounced dead on Friday at 1:40 p.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Rivers.

The slaying is among the latest in a more than two-year outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed about 200 lives across the CSRA.

Communities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River.

But as the largest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.
