MILLEN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 17-year-old was arrested last week in Jenkins County after pointing a gun at some other students, according to authorities.

The teenager pointed a gun at three students who were in the school parking lot, according to Sheriff Robert Oglesby.

The sheriff said the teenager was riding by, so he wasn’t on the property of the campus on Barney Avenue, but he was still in the school safety zone.

The sheriff said the teenager was caught with a rifle and handgun.

He said the teenager faces six charges, including three counts of pointing a gun at another, two counts of having a firearm in a school safety zone and one count of being a minor illegally in possession of a firearm – the pistol.

The sheriff said it appeared to be a case of a teenager doing something ill-advised and dangerous while not actually meaning to do any harm.

News 12 reached out to Jenkins County Superintendent John Paul Hearn, who declined to comment, citing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a federal law that protects the privacy of students.
