PEMBROKE, Ga. - The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office shared a pro tip Sunday: “If you’re gonna run from the police, maybe don’t wear a reflective vest.”

This comes after a situation where a enger ran from law enforcement into the woods, deputies wrote in a social media post.

It happened on Valentine’s Day when deputies conducted a safety checkpoint – similar to ones over the weekend in Richmond County that resulted in dozens of arrests and citations.

Around 10 p.m. that night, law enforcement said a driver stopped their car in the roadway before reaching the checkpoint and a enger ran out of the vehicle into the woods.

Multiple law enforcement officers and five K-9 units were already on the scene. A deputy sent out a thermal imaging drone to find the enger.

A high-speed chase ended with three people dead in Crisp County – one of the latest in a string of police chases with serious consequences in Georgia.

Seconds later, the drone operator spotted a heat signature.

“And here’s where it gets even better,” deputies wrote. “The suspect was wearing a fluorescent yellow, highly reflective work vest. When the spotlight hit him, he lit up like a Christmas tree.”

The chase lasted a total of 11 minutes.
