Dad, daughter give back to those in need with ‘Sneakerella’ Ball
LEXINGTON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves. Lexington father Steven Morris and his 12-year-old daughter, Stevie, wear theirs on their feet.
The pair work within the South Carolina community to give back to people who are experiencing homelessness. What they’re giving is something most people take for granted.
“I think everyone has a right to open a new pair of shoes,” said Stevie.
Local organizations bring Broadway to seniors
Two foundations are now offering tickets to local seniors who would like to see a Broadway show at The Columbia County Performing Arts Center
When she was 5 years old, the younger Morris saw a child without shoes. According to her father, that was when her mission to make sure everyone in South Carolina had shoes on their feet was born.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “I’m watching her grow with a heart to give. You don’t see that in young people anymore.”
Over the years, the pair has raised thousands of dollars and given away store-fulls of shoes to those in need. Now, they invite the community to help them with their cause.
Last weekend, the philanthropists hosted the ‘Sneakerella’ ball, a father-daughter dance where everyone is encouraged to wear sneakers. Fathers and daughters of all ages were invited to attend the dance. The event included live music, food, and comfort.
Kids learn electrical safety tips through magic show
An important message for kids was delivered through magic on Tuesday morning.
“It’s funny because so many men wear sneakers with suits anyway,” explained Steven. “This is a time where dads can be comfortable and show their daughters a good time.”
Proceeds raised will fund the Morris' efforts to help those experiencing homelessness.
