Finding Solutions: How nonprofit brings Broadway to local seniors
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A nonprofit organization is centered around the community.
One local man started The James Henry Sweat Foundation in honor of his great-grandfather, who believed children and the elderly were the people who drove the world. The work the foundation does throughout the community benefits both groups.
The organization has been around for nearly 10 years — created in honor of one local man — James Henry Sweat.
Wellstar MCG launches Hospital at Home program
Wellstar MCG Health recently launched the Hospital Care at Home program which provides patients with everything they need to recover from the comfort of their own bed.

The JHS Foundation is now teaming up with another organization that’s finding solutions in how they can provide seniors with an unforgettable experience.
The founder of JHS Foundation, Anthony Sweat, said his great-grandfather “believed in being there for the community with seniors because they give the knowledge to the people who run the world and children because they are going to be the future. So my principles have always been elderly and kids, the principles of my great-grandfather.”
Anthony says his great-grandfather was a man who always gave back to his community. It’s something Anthony later made his own mission.
The JHS foundation focuses on providing meals to families at the Ronald McDonald House and to local schools.
Ronald McDonald House looks for after canceled fundraiser
Not everyone receiving care at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia lives in the CSRA. That’s where the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta steps in.

“It’s a great feeling to be able to help people and I feel like I am just a small part and if I do my small part then I can help,” said Anthony.
The JHS Foundation is now partnering with the Hy and Blanche Selwyn Cultural Impact Series Endowment, an organization named after Harris Abelman’s grandparents.
Abelman, the chairman of the Hy and Blanche Selwyn Cultural Impact Series Endowment, says, “The foundation is to better the lives health wise, and mentally of the elderly. It was important to my grandparents to do that because they lived at Brandon Wilde and so bringing entertainment to the residents was important to them.”
Augusta Partnership for Children celebrates 40 years of service
An organization centered around helping families is getting ready to celebrate a huge milestone.
In honor of both their grandparents, the two foundations are now offering tickets to local seniors who would like to see a Broadway show at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.
“I would like them to better their lives, to have a great evening out,” said Abelman. “Sometimes they can’t get out and now will be able to experience a Broadway show that they may not have been able to in the past and have a great experience.”
The next Broadway show will be Pretty Woman: The Musical on April 24 at 7:30 p.m., followed by Chicago: The Musical in May.
If you are a senior, you can sign up at the JHS Foundation website.
