Remains identified from burned, abandoned Ga. funeral home

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to reunite the 57 unclaimed remains with family .

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 57 sets of cremated remains that were found at an abandoned and burned funeral home last year.

In November, a British photographer posted photos from inside the Norman Medford Peden Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, where he found urns, bags of human ashes and human remains alongside sensitive papers. The discovery prompted a multi-agency investigation, which is still ongoing.

The funeral home had gone out of business, and the building was supposed to be foreclosed when a fire damaged it in April, according to the Cobb County Communications Department.

“We hope to provide answers to any family with lingering questions about a loved one’s ing,” Cobb County Medical Examiner Christopher Gulledge said in a statement.

911 call released in Burke County fatal shooting

Newly released recordings of a 911 call shed light on what happened when a man was fatally shot in Burke County over the weekend.

Telvin Osborne was fatally shot on Feb. 23, 2025, in Keysville. Hannah Cobb has been arrested.

“Our office has worked tirelessly to identify these cremains using various methods, and we are committed to reuniting them with their families.”

Army of rescuers saves man after building collapse in North Augusta

A man was rescued after a building collapsed on him in North Augusta, trapping him and bringing dozens of first responders to the scene.

Cobb County officials said the funeral home was contracted with the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services to provide services for people who can’t afford to bury their family .

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office has also launched an investigation into where the funeral home’s funds and owner went.
