(InvestigateTV) — Whether you dream of a house with a white picket fence, a big backyard, or even a pool, owning a home is still part of the American dream.

That dream has become a nightmare for many due to high mortgage rates, skyrocketing prices and housing shortages.

A 2024 survey found more than half of aspiring homeowners say their income isn’t high enough to afford a down payment and closing costs.

Now, some are trying a nontraditional approach to get into the world of owning real estate. That trend is known as co-buying: pooling resources with a friend, to buy a home together.

This trend has also led to the creation of companies like Nestment, CoBuy, and Pairadime, which aim to guide people through the co-buying process.

Reporter Heather Graf examines this growing trend.
