AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you’ve ever been to the northeast, you know they take a lot of pride in their bagels.

But tucked away in a strip on Walton Way Extension, you can get the taste of a homemade bagel right here in Augusta.

Bagels mean a lot to Steve and Abbey Boyd.

“We have an aficionado for bagels. Like we love bagels,” said Abbey and Steve Boyd, owners of Elemy’s Bagels. “So when we were in the military, we would travel to a new duty station. First thing we do, let’s find the bagel shop. So we come to Augusta and say, “Alright, let’s find the bagel shop.’ It doesn’t exist.”

So, they turned their ion into a business and opened up Elemy’s Bagels, named after their kids, Eli and Emmy.

“He studied thousands and thousands and thousands of hours on YouTube trying to figure this out,” said Abbey. “Oh, this is a true statement. Every single video, piece of video and written material that exists online about bagels. I have put it all in my brain,” said Steve.

They were met with a major challenge right away when Hurricane Helene tore through the area.

They quickly went from store to supplier.

“The only thing we knew how to do was bagels. We did a day full of bagels. Come in, get a pack of six bagels or whatever your family needed, and we had hundreds of bagels that went out that day,” they said.

And business took off after that.

What started as the two of them has grown to a team of seven.

Putting out an average of more than 400 hand-rolled bagels a day.

They’re open Thursday through Monday over on Verandah Drive in Augusta.
