Ga. House approves budget with cuts to school voucher program
ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Tuesday, of the Georgia House approved the fiscal year 2026 budget.
House Appropriations Chairman Matt Hatchett took to the well to explain how they came up with the 127-page document.
“There are many worthy causes competing for the same limited resources,” said Hatchett.
Ga. Senate es bill that requires schools to have ‘panic button’
A bill that would require every school in Georgia to implement a panic button alert system ed the state Senate just before a crucial deadline last week.

On Monday, the subcommittee chairman presented their budget asks.
“You talk about picking winners and losers in districts that are already at the bottom of the list in the state of Georgia. That’s just something I can’t be proud of as a Georgian,” said Terei.
The budget bill includes extra money to educate poor public school students.

The House approved the budget 171-4. Both Democrats and Republicans spoke in favor of the bill.
Speaker of the Georgia House Jon Burns applauded the age of the bill. He hopes the Senate will vote soon.
“We’ll continue to make strategic investments in Georgia, and that’s what we’ve done today with this budget,” said Burns.
The Senate now has the chance to vote or make changes to the bill.
