NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Thursday, we’re learning more about several projects in North Augusta.

The growing city has a lot heading its way, from apartments to a new public safety headquarters.

From Exit 1 to Exit 5 and everywhere in between, it’s evident North Augusta is in a phase of constant development and growth.

“We’re in family entertainment, so seeing all the opportunities for us to provide more of that entertainment to all of the growth and all the family we’re going to be, you know, seeing coming into our community,” said Brandy Gunsolus, owner of the Splatter Place. “So we’re just ecstatic.”

A new traffic light is coming near The Hive and The Parker Apartments.

Aiken leaders aim to improve road safety at community meeting

Aiken leaders will hold a community meeting on Tuesday to hear the community’s thoughts on how to make their roads safer.

“The reason why traffic lights going in at Knobcone and Martintown is because the apartment complex, The Parker generated enough traffic load on Martintown Road to require it, and so the developer is paying for that aspect,” said Jim Clifford, North Augusta city .

And a new public safety headquarters is just weeks away from a ribbon cutting.

“You can talk to any public safety officer, and they’ll tell you how excited they are to be in that building. That’s been a bit of a journey for the city to get us into that facility, but ultimately, everybody’s in there right now. The facility works very well,” said Clifford.

With changes to pedestrian safety on Georgia Avenue coming next year, leaders say they’re making these investments because safety is important in North Augusta.

“We’re making investments in the road networks to make sure they’re going to be viable for pedestrians as well, as we worry about pedestrians transiting our downtown corridor,” said Clifford.

“Public safety, wastewater, storm water, schools, things like that to make sure that yes, we’re growing, but we have to make sure that we do it strategically and do it the right way,” said David Buck, business owner and member of the North Augusta City Council.

All in order to continue ing an evolving city.

We also learned that you’ll have to wait a while longer for the replacement of the 13th Street Bridge.

The Georgia Department of Transportation tells us an official start date has not been set yet and that 2028 is the earliest construction could start.

They say there is also no estimated completion date at this time, nor an estimated project duration.

2032 is the deadline for the project to go out to bids, as required by the Transportation Investment Act, according to the department.

“Right of way still needs to be secured, and plans for traffic staging need to be finalized. Once that is finished, we’ll have a better idea of the timeline,” a spokesperson for GDOT said.
