Golf week rentals still trying to adjust after Helene
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Tournament week will be here before we know it and that means hundreds of homeowners are preparing for renters.
This year, however, hurricane damage is putting on some extra pressure.
That’s right, more than 1,000 homes in our area received some sort of damage, and more than 300 were totally destroyed.
We checked in to see how that’s changed this year’s rental landscape.
When you rent out your home during Masters week, you already have a long list to complete. However, a new task is on the list this year, recovering from Hurricane Helene.
Augusta reveals traffic plans for Masters Tournament
On Wednesday, the city unveiled the traffic plan for tournament week.

As the Masters approaches, homeowners and rental companies are doing everything they can to be ready for thousands of visitors to be in Augusta next month.
“As of right now we just stuffed all of our bedding in here and I had to empty out my son’s closet so you can see his clothes up there,” said Elizabeth Skowronski, a homeowner.
Doing the usual prep like changing sheets, towels and dinnerware, making sure it’s perfect.
“Magazine ready for the renters that come in, but this year is offered a few challenges,” said Skowronski.
And big challenges too. Damage from Hurricane Helene, meaning some regulars sitting this one out, but it’s an opportunity for others.
“There are definitely some homes that are not going to be available for rent this year, but luckily they were not already rented, So we’ve called a few homeowners and said, ‘Hey, are you available?’ But they said they won’t be able to rent, so we just had to move on. But as far as any houses that were already contracted, all of them have been able to make their repairs and we’ll be ready,” said Stacey Greenway, tournament housing vice president.
Masters champions’ dinner menu looks familiar this year
Masters champion Scottie Scheffler has decided on his menu when he hosts the Masters Club dinner, and it wasn’t a big surprise — it’s a lot like the one he selected the last time he was champion.

Some houses are doing last-minute touches in ways they didn’t expect.
“Because there was so much catastrophic damage all over this area, you couldn’t necessarily get the things you needed, so we had a chimney that got blown off by the hurricane and had to be replaced and repaired before the roof could be done,” said Skowronski. “So we had a couple of issues and it took a while for the chimney to get done. So that got done, let’s say two weeks ago, so our roof finally got replaced last weekend. we had four snow days, so Georgia in general has had a year for weather.”
“If any town can pull it together it’s Augusta,” said Greenway.
