Alex Murdaugh’s attorney to represent Hunter Biden
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Dick Harpootlian, a Columbia attorney who served as State Senator and defended convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh in 2023, has a new client.
Harpootlian’s office confirmed he will be representing Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, in a federal libel lawsuit in Los Angeles, California.
Biden is suing Patrick Byrne, the former CEO of Overstock.com, an online retail company.
S.C. Treasurer rejects calls to resign after senate finance report on $1.8B error
The state treasurer of South Carolina rejected calls for his removal by the Senate Finance Constitutional Subcommittee investigating a $1.8 billion ing error Tuesday.
The lawsuit, originally filed in 2023, argues Byrne falsely stated Biden “‘was reaching out to the Iranian government in the fall of 2021′ and offering to have [his] father, President Joe Biden, ‘unfreeze’ $8 billion in Iranian funds ‘in return for $800 million being funneled into a numbered for us.’”
Biden’s lawsuit characterizes the statements as “completely outrageous”, arguing Byrne “knows his statements are baseless and yet published and republished them anyway.”
The filing characterizes Byrne as “a leading promoter of uned conspiracy theories, primarily relating to the so-called ‘Deep State’ and to his claim that the 2020 presidential election was ‘stolen’ from President Donald Trump.”
