Local group calls for an end to gun violence
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One local group is calling on the community to put down the firearms.
On Saturday, CSRA Community-in-Action held a Guns Down event in hopes of lowering the gun violence rate.
This year 10 people have been shot and killed in our area and it’s only March.
The organizers of the Guns Down event say the goal is to reach the next generation.
“Our event today, for March especially, is to reach our young children,” says Ferris Simpkins, event organizer. “They are the next generation who will be taking over and we want to groom leaders, politicians, doctors, lawyers, law enforcement, and that’s why this event is so important to us.”
Ready Player One now open in Augusta
A new taproom is now open in Augusta.
Several groups, including the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, spoke at the event.
Young people were also able to talk about what they needed to decrease gun violence.
