Aiken Schools honor 2025-2026 Stars of Public Education
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Aiken County Public School District celebrated its 2025-2026 Stars of Public Education at Aiken High School on March 20.
“It is truly an honor to be here tonight as we celebrate the outstanding individuals who make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and school communities every single day,” shared ASD Superintendent Dr. Corey Murphy. “Tonight’s Stars of Public Education event allows us to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the educators, leaders, and staff who exemplify excellence in public education.”
2 Edgefield County men arrested for child sex crime related charges
The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men for charges related to child sex crimes.
The STARS of Public Education event recognizes excellence in seven district-wide categories:
- GEM (Giving Even More) of the Year
- Professional Staff Member of the Year
- District Level of the Year
- Assistant Principal of the Year
- Principal of the Year
- First Year Teacher of the Year
- Teacher of the Year
The winners of each award were:
- GEM of the Year – Ni’Jae Jerry (Busbee Elementary School)
- Professional Staff Member of the Year – Rashad Roland (Transportation Supervisor)
- District Level of the Year – Merry Glenne Piccolino (Director of Communications)
- Assistant Principal of the Year – David Harris (North Augusta High School)
- Principal of the Year – Shunte Dugar (Schofield Middle School)
- First Year Teacher of the Year –Theresa Reeves (Byrd Elementary School)
- Teacher of the Year – Dr. Christie Palladino (Aiken County Career & Technology Center)





District winners received a commemorative plaque, a monetary award, a specially selected trophy and a gold ring.
