Finding Solutions: City of Grovetown growing history through expansion
GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Changes are coming to Grovetown! The city bought a property that will eventually serve as the new location for the Grovetown Museum.
City officials say the current space has become limited, which is why they’re finding solutions in expanding the city’s history.
It’s a building you may have seen driving on Robinson Avenue.
The city’s museum has stood at this location for nearly 25 years.
“The uniqueness of the town is that it was founded by people who really cared about the community, who mostly came here somehow connected to the railroad, others came here on land grants,” said Elaine Matthews, Grovetown city . “There’s so much history here for people to come in and see.”
Finding Solutions: Rise Augusta changes lives in local schools through literacy
In the CSRA, Rise Augusta is changing lives in our schools through literacy. The nonprofit says they have seen multiple benefits in the kids they tutor on a weekly basis.

It’s a stop worth taking, especially for a city that is constantly growing.
Matthews has lived in Grovetown her whole life.
“The growth has been exponential,” said Matthews. “When I was a child and lived here, most of the roads were not paved, and most of the buildings here were not here then, so the growth has been amazing.”
And now the city is looking to grow the museum.
They recently purchased a property a couple of blocks down the road.
“I’ve always called our museum the hidden gem because a lot of people don’t know that it exists,” said Jordan Johson, Grovetown public information officer. “We think the new spot will be a better location with a little more visibility.”
Finding Solutions: Salvation Army looks for help as need grows
Donations are needed at the Salvation Army of Augusta as they see an increase in families staying at their shelter with tournament week.

This new space will continue to feature a variety of artifacts, photographs and replicas of structures that once stood in Grovetown, while also giving more room to grow.
“Our idea right now is to have rotating displays depending on themed events and relevant topics,” said Johnson. We’re just looking to make our history a little more accessible for our citizens.”
It’s a new project with the community top of mind.
“We want to give the opportunity for people to feel like they are a part of this, even if they weren’t born here or didn’t know people when they moved here,” said Matthews. “I think it gives people a sense of belonging when you kind of know the history.”
There is no official opening date for the new museum just yet. Updates to the building have to be made first.
However, the original Grovetown Museum is still open Thursday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
It is completely free and located off Robinson Avenue.
