AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office took another step toward keeping the community safe.

The office says deputies Marin-Pelaez and Wade Banks completed the narcotics handler course.

Both are now qualified Richmond County K-9-unit handlers.

Aiken Schools honor 2025-2026 Stars of Public Education

The Aiken County Public School District celebrated its 2025-2026 Stars of Public Education at Aiken High School on Thursday.

Officials said the four-week course is one of the most challenging in the southeast.

Richmond County Sheriff Eugene “Gino” Brantley says the K-9 unit was expanded to allow for 24-hour coverage in both the north and south precincts.
