AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s time to get ready for the 3rd annual Augusta Duck Dash!

This is the Family Y’s large fundraiser that s the A Place to Dream Program, which provides beds for children in need.

The Family Y is finding solutions in raising awareness and funds to help keep up with the high demand for beds.

Since 2017, the Family Y of Greater Augusta has provided more than 2,000 beds to kids in our area.

An organization centered around helping our youth is getting ready to host a workshop specifically for girls.

They say the need has increased, and part of that is due to Hurricane Helene.

Last year, the Duck Dash event went virtual because of damage to the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

1,700 ducks raced in the Aiken County Y’s lazy river.

But this year, Duck Dash is back to normal at the Savannah Rapids Park with a goal of raising $200,000.

”We’re well on our way to hit that goal, but we need to hit that goal to the need that’s in our community,” said Catie McCauley, president and CEO of the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta. “The need is greater than that. We will continue to work and turn over every rock we can to these kids, but we need Augusta Duck Dash to be successful this year so we can continue to give out these beds.”

You’re able to purchase ducks now to race down the canal for prizes.

Finding Solutions: Rise Augusta changes lives in local schools through literacy

In the CSRA, Rise Augusta is changing lives in our schools through literacy. The nonprofit says they have seen multiple benefits in the kids they tutor on a weekly basis.

It’s taking place Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Savannah Rapids Park.

The Family Y says they’re still in need of sponsors for the event.

Families can also participate in the free festival where there will be bounce houses, food trucks, a costume contest for kids and a trunk or treat.
