Augustan killed in McCormick County 18-wheeler crash

MCCORMICK, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An Augusta man has died after a crash involving an 18-wheeler in McCormick County on Thursday morning.

The McCormick County Coroner’s Office says 47-year-old Marvin Garrett Kent died in the crash.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says Kent, driving a 1997 Honda sedan, was driving north on Highway 28 while an 18-wheeler was driving south on Highway 28.

The two vehicles collided head-on, according to troopers.

Kent died following the crash, according to troopers.

Boil water advisory issued for some Beech Island residents

The Beech Island Water District says a boil water advisory is in effect to due to a water line break on Thursday.

Multiple agencies assisted McCormick County Emergency Services with the fatal crash.

According to Abbeville County Fire Service, just past 6 a.m., Abbeville County 911 received a mutual aid request from McCormick County EMS.

Bethia Volunteer Fire Department, Sharon and Calhoun Falls Fire Departments, Abbeville County Department of Public Safety and Edgewood Fire Rescue also responded to the scene.

Abbeville County Fire Service says its worked along with McCormick and completed the extrications.

The Abbeville County Department of Public Safety provided patient care and transport, according to first responders.

“Our volunteers stood by with the South Carolina Highway Patrol to assist with scene safety on the highway while they conducted their investigation and while the vehicles were uprighted and removed by wrecker companies,” Abbeville County Fire Service said in a Facebook post.

“Thank you to fire, EMS and law enforcement that helped assist us with this call! We appreciate you and everything you do!” McCormick County Emergency Services said in a Facebook post.
