Atlanta’s bats come alive in shellacking of Marlins
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Braves scored three runs in the third inning of Friday’s home opener against the Miami Marlins to take an early lead off starting pitcher Max Meyer.
With two on and nobody out, designated hitter Marcell Ozuna lined a two-run double to left field to open scoring for Atlanta. Then, after a Matt Olson groundout advanced Ozuna to third, third baseman Austin Riley hit a bloop single to right field to put the Braves up 3-0.
The Braves, who are 0-7, have been inefficient with runners in scoring position up to this point. The team was up 5-0 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday before blowing the lead and losing to a Shohei Ohtani walk-off home run.
The Braves would load the bases in the fifth inning, but infielder Nick Allen struck out to strand the runners. Through five, the Braves left eight men on base.
The Braves won the game by a final score of 10-0.
