Real ID deadline is one month away
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Those with travel plans are urged to act soon to prevent delays or other travel issue.
May 7, 2025 is the date the federal government is implementing the Real ID.
Those who want to travel or enter government buildings must present a driver’s license or ID card with the Real ID gold star when entering.
Experts say the new IDs are more secure and harder to counterfeit. In 2005, Congress ed the REAL ID Act to combat terrorism and reduce identity fraud.

In South Carolina, 62% of driver’s licenses and ID cards are Real ID compliant, but there are still over one million South Carolinians without a compliant card.
Real ID is not required to drive or vote.
If your license or ID card has a black or gold star in the upper right corner, it is Real ID compliant.
